Main Responsibilities

For our activities in ESTEC, we are currently looking for a Galileo Ground Segment Support Engineer.

The key person shall work as integrated support to the Galileo Control Segment Procurement office in ESTEC.

The initial focus of the work shall be on support to the phase B of the GAL Second Generation (G2G) and support to aspects of security in GAL data systems.

 

The responsibilities of this post include:

1) Support to the Segment Engineering team

(a) Participating in Segment reviews and Element reviews when required.

(b) Follow up of design activities at segment level (architecture, performances, common services) when required by the ESA Technical Manager, with special focus on the GCS Security functions.

(c) Contribution to Segment change request production and review.

(e) Contribution of Request For Deviation and waivers assessment.

(d) Follow up the Cyber Security topics, ensuring a timely resolution of the vulnerabilities found.

 

2) GCS Assembly, Integration and Verification (AIV) engineer

Provide support to the GCS AIV team as required, with respect to:

(a) Support GCS on‐site AIV activities through review of test procedures, witnessing of test campaigns aiming at segment integration & verification, external interface verification and overall segment validation.

(b) Be responsible of organising and/or supporting the Test Readiness Reviews and Test Readiness Board campaigns, ensuring that the integrated GCS successfully passes the planned test campaign.

(c) Ensuring that the GCS functional and design requirements are adequately verified through a process of verification testing including participation in the Verification Control Boards.

(d) Ensuring that the GCS compliance to the applicable requirements is correctly verified by the Prime Contractor during planned test campaigns either at element or system level.

(e) Supporting to the Ground Segment (GCS to GMS) Integration and Verification Test Campaigns when required.

(f) Informing the GCS Technical Manager with respect to any design or functional requirement issues arising during the AIV campaigns

 

3) Support to FOC2 Procurement

The post holder shall provide expert support to the FOC2 Procurement process as per his area of responsibility.

 

4) Support to G2G Activities

The post holder shall provide expert support to the preparation of the G2G Phase B ITT preparation, to the evaluation of contractor proposals and to the different Phase B reviews and activities, as per his area of responsibility.

Successful Candidate

The key person shall bring the following:

  • University degree or equivalent education in Computer Science, Electric or Electronic Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Telecommunications Engineering;
  • Good knowledge of applicable ECSS standards (ECSS‐E‐10‐03A, ECSS‐E‐10‐02A) as well as Galileo applicable standards (GSWS);
  • Good knowledge of the Galileo system design, Galileo Control Segment design and of satellite control infrastructures (e.g. ESOC, DLR, Eumetsat, etc.);
  • Practical experience on the procurement area;
  • Practical experience in development, integration, verification and testing of satellite monitoring and control infrastructure;
  • Demonstrable experience on Security aspects;
  • A proven experience of working with commercial/industrial organisations is required. Experience related to developments in the Galileo project will be considered an asset.
